WASHINGTON, March 13 (UPI) -- The U.S. Transportation Security Administration announced the appointment of a new general manager of the agency's Commercial Airports Security division.
The Commercial Airports Security division is part of the TSA's Transportation Sector Network Management operations. Officials named former LaGuardia Airport federal security director Douglas Hofsass as the new general manager, the TSA reported.
"Doug's significant aviation operations management, leadership and security experience is ideal to develop policies that meet the changing needs of security at our nation's commercial airports," John Sammon, Transportation Sector Network Management assistant administrator, said in a statement.
Hofsass served for the past two years in his position as security director at New York's LaGuardia. He was also responsible for TSA security operations at Long Island MacArthur Airport, Westchester County Airport and heliports in Manhattan among other security initiatives in the New York region.
"In his new position, Hofsass will be responsible for building strong security networks with commercial airports nationwide. TSA's commercial airports division enhances security by working collaboratively with airport industry stakeholders to develop efficient and effective policies and programs for airports," the release said.
