Plot to kill Mohammed cartoonist foiled

ARHUS, Denmark, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Danish police have foiled a plot to kill a caricaturist who drew one of the cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.

Police arrested four Muslim men in the Danish city of Arhus, Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten reported. That same newspaper in 2005 published 12 cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed, which several months later sparked violent protests that killed dozens of people.

Police said the four men are accused of having plotted to murder 73-year-old cartoonist Kurt Westergaard in his own house, who had drawn the prophet with a bomb in his turban. The man has since had to move several times and stands under constant protection.

Westergaard condemned the reactions as "madness" and said he was suffering from the fact that a cartoon had managed to seriously damage his life.
