BAGHDAD, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Members of an Iraqi security force uncovered and turned in two weapons caches just outside of the capital, U.S. forces said.
Members of the group, Sons of Iraq, notified U.S. military officials of a cache containing foreign-made munitions located in Salman Pak roughly 20 miles south of Baghdad, the Multi-National Division-Center said Tuesday.
The U.S. military said the cache contained six bombs, seven rocket-propelled grenades and several mortar and anti-tank rounds.
A second Iraqi security group operating roughly 10 miles northeast of the capital uncovered a similar cache consisting of 38 small-bore foreign-made projectiles.
The Iraqi national police were called in by the U.S. military to secure the locations of the caches.
The Sons of Iraq formerly operated as the Concerned Local Citizens, who are affiliated with the Sunni-led Anbar Awakening councils. They are also supported by U.S.-led forces.
