BAGHDAD, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Iraqi officials presided over a ceremony in Baghdad Tuesday marking the release of hundreds of detainees deemed ready for reintegration into Iraqi society.
Iraqi Deputy Minister of Education Nohad al-Jibouri and Hassan Dokan al-Janabi, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, presided over the ceremony making congratulatory remarks.
"Congratulations on your release. … You are the 'Lions of Iraq!'" Janabi said.
U.S.-led forces and the Iraqi central government preside over monthly release ceremonies intended to bring about goodwill and reconciliation with the Iraqi public, Multi-National Force-Iraq said Tuesday.
Review boards determine if individuals can be released, and they are obligated to make pledges of good conduct before an Iraqi judge.
Detainees undergo basic education courses, vocational training and work programs while in custody.
