Iraqi police HQ with constant electricity

BAGHDAD, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- The Iraqi National Police Headquarters in Baghdad held a ceremony celebrating the completion of a project giving it continuous electricity.

A chief engineer with the Iraqi National Police said the collaboration of Iraqi parties, contractors and U.S. officials contributed to the achievement, the Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq said in a statement.

New generators for the police headquarters link to the central government's continuously operating electrical grid operating under the approval of the Ministry of Electricity, officials said.

A U.S. adviser to the Iraqi police force said that prior to the connection to the continuous supply, the facility used several generators to supply power on an as-needed basis.

An Iraqi engineer noted workers completed the connection three days ahead of schedule and nearly $100,000 under budget.
