KRG PM condemns Mosul bombing

KIRKUK, Iraq, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- The prime minister of Kurdistan in a statement issued a public condemnation of the Jan. 23 bombing in Mosul and the assassination of the chief of police.

Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani condemned the "attack on freedom" in the bombing of an apartment building in Mosul that killed 36 people.

A suicide bomber wearing a police uniform assassinated the local police chief, Brig. Gen. Salah Mohammed al-Jubouri, as he toured the site of the explosion the next day.

"We strongly condemn these terrorist attacks and reiterate our offer of assistance to the citizens and administration of Mosul," Barzani said in the news release.

Barzani stressed the "historic fraternity" between the different ethnic and religious communities in northern Iraq and called for the eradication of "the barbaric terrorist" threat to the region.

"Furthermore, I strongly urge all concerned parties to cooperate to expel the terrorists and to prevent the ongoing sabotage against peace in Mosul," he said.
