Iraq Press Roundup

Shabab Al Iraq newspaper carried an editorial Monday titled "Bush's allies withdraw from Iraq entanglement."

"The disagreement between the U.S. and British governments over the occupation of Iraq has been acknowledged, especially after the British withdrawal since Gordon Brown took office," the paper said.

It said the sides disagreed over the handling of security responsibilities by the Iraqi government. The paper said the Australians took the same path as the British and that the Bush "curse" infected all of his alliances.

"As Berlusconi in Rome, Aznar in Spain and Blair in Britain, now Howard in Australia is leaving," it said.

"U.S. research centers are setting up new scenarios and plans that must take into consideration the history of Iraq; a history of armed resistance that fights the occupiers' policies," it said.

It said the occupiers' policies only prolong the presence of the occupation forces, using excuses that affect the people under the occupation such as plans to divide the country, building strategic bases and surrounding Iraq with bases in neighboring countries.

The Saudi-based Al Basaer newspaper carried an editorial Monday with the headline, "There is no solution under the occupation."

It said some solutions are set up by the occupiers, leading to solutions that deepen the problem and lengthen the life of the occupation.

"Many meetings and summits are being held, yet they all stop at one unmovable point --The occupier who tries to impose and force the people into his visions and solutions," the paper said.

The paper, which is backed by the Association of Muslim Scholars, said the reason many summits exclude Iraq is because Iraq's "government" is broken and tries to attend international meetings with the support of the occupier.

"The occupiers allowed the region, through their political process, to interfere with Iraq in addition to provoking sectarian strife," the paper said.

It compared the situation in Iraq to a wounded person who is bleeding and has a headache.

"You need to treat the wound that causes the bleeding which creates the headache," the editorial said.

It said the occupiers brought these problems to Iraq and found those who could fuel and promote the troubles so the "people of Iraq would be busy with matters like security when the occupiers are busy trying to pass laws that work in their interest."

"The southern tribal council conference is a clear picture of the unity of the Iraqi people when the tribesmen called to end the occupation and sectarianism," it said.
