
WASHINGTON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- The regional government in Iraqi Kurdistan is issuing biometric identity cards to all its employees to improve security at government offices.
GulfNet Security Systems and Emirates Computers have been selected to provide an end-to-end identity card system, business news Web Site ipt.net reported Wednesday.
The Web site reported the system includes a card issuance and management system, developed by Emirates Computers, and based on Microsoft technology, with hardware and network infrastructure, including card printers, scanners and mobile readers.
Michael Roumi, general manager of GulfNet, said the contract "is a prestigious project. … The IT Department of (the Kurdistan Regional Government) evaluated a number of proposals from suppliers of different countries and awarded this significant project to GNSS and Emirates Computers based on our expertise and best-of-breed solutions that we offered."
"We offered the best secured solution for the Kurdistan Regional Government, which included a matrix of options by industry leading manufacturers of smart ID Cards, personalization printers, software and other peripherals," Roumi added.
