India says Maoists plan to loot armories

NEW DELHI, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Indian security agencies say they have unearthed a Maoist rebel plan to loot two armories in Orissa state.

Security officials said this information was revealed during the interrogation of two top Maoist leaders in the state of Bihar. Police in Bihar last week arrested Tusharkanta Bhattacharya and Bhaskar, who were commanders of Maoist rebels in Jharkhand, The Pioneer newspaper reported Tuesday.

When questioned, the two rebels told interrogators they planned to attack armories of Bargarh and Deogarh and blow up a paramilitary camp located along the Jharkhand-Bihar border, a Bihar police spokesman said.

He said one unit of the special-operation group and one platoon of Orissa state armed police were kept ready to foil any attempt to loot armories. He said a special intelligence wing from Bhubneswar, Orissa state, left for Bihar and Jharkhand to collect more information.
