India seeks blast accused's extradition

NEW DELHI, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- India's Central Bureau of Investigation has sought the extradition of accused criminal mastermind Dawood Ibrahim from Pakistan.

The agency said the international community should mount pressure on Pakistan, which India accuses of harboring Ibrahim, the prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts.

"We all know where he has been staying all along," CBI Director Vijay Shankar said on the sidelines of a global conference on cybercrime held Wednesday in New Delhi.

He said the world community should exert pressure on the country that has given him shelter.

Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble flanked the CBI director. While replying to a query on the Interpol red-corner notice against Ibrahim, Shankar said it was Pakistan's duty to execute the notice issued by the global police agency.

"It is for the judicial order of that country whether it wanted to comply with the warrant," Noble said.
