NEW DELHI, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- India has asked Bangladesh to cooperate with it in anti-terrorism operations.
New Delhi sent a missive to Dhaka after Bangladesh denied having arrested Abu Hamza, an alleged member of Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami who India has linked with the recent bombings in the southern city of Hyderabad that killed 42 people, The Hindustan Times newspaper reported.
"Bangladesh has been asked to cooperate with India in the war on terror and also provide the particulars about individuals indulging in all sorts of activities like insurgency and terrorism," Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherkee told reporters Wednesday.
Indian intelligence agencies report that insurgency has grown in Bangladesh during the military-supported regime of Fakhruddin Ahmed, a media report said.
Indian intelligence agencies say terror outfits such as Hizb-ul-Toheit, the Allah-ar-Dal and the Jaheed-Al-Qaid have mushroomed in Bangladesh in recent times, establishing links with insurgent groups operating in Indian territory bordering Bangladesh.
According to intelligence inputs, more disturbing are reports of the emergence of Bangladesh as the hotbed of a pan-Islamic movement.
The Indian Foreign Ministry said a list of 176 hideouts it claimed functioned with Pakistani support was turned over to Bangladesh with a demand for action.
