Mumbai put on terror alert

MUMBAI, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Mumbai was placed on high alert after two foreign nationals with suspected terror links sneaked into the city, police said.

"We would like to issue an advisory ... . We have intelligence inputs that two foreign nationals have entered the city with intention to cause disruption at crowded and religious places," said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police.

"We appeal to the citizens to remain alert and inform the police if they spot the two."

Asked when the two men had entered the city, Roy said, "Very recently."

Police refused to reveal the nationality of the men whose photographs were released at a hastily called news conference, Press Trust of India reported Friday.

Other sources identified the two as Kalimuddin Khan, 28, and Hafij Sarif, 25, Press of Trust India said.

Intelligence agencies said the two were in the city to cause disruption at crowded places on the eve of Eid al-Fitr, the Islamic holiday marking the end of Ramadan and the start of the Ganesh Chaturthiduring festival season.
