Drone attacks kill 10 militants

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Two U.S. missile attacks in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal area Wednesday killed at least 10 militants, regional security officials said.

At least six militants were killed in an unmanned aircraft attack targeting the compound of a local militant in Dandey Darpakhel in the area along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Pakistan's English-language Dawn News reported.

In the second attack, a U.S. drone fired two missiles that hit a vehicle, killing four militants near the village of Amboor Shaga, officials said.

U.S. forces have been fighting insurgents linked to the Taliban and al-Qaida in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region, considered a safe haven for militants, Dawn News said. While U.S. officials don't usually confirm drone attacks, its military and intelligence operations in Afghanistan are the only forces deploying drones in the region.
