The Helsinki Times reported police said three people were in custody, including the suspected shooter. An unlicensed semiautomatic handgun suspected of being the weapon used in the shooting was recovered, police said.

Police said the shooting suspect, identified as a Porvoo resident born in 1969, had a record of violent crime, YLE reported. The man had been released from prison in December after serving 12 years of a life sentence for murder.

The TV station said a male and female companion of the victims escaped the early-morning incident uninjured.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the shooting, police said.
