SYDNEY, March 10 (UPI) -- A wheelchair-bound Canadian paraplegic suffered a skull fracture after two Australian teenagers attacked him Wednesday at a Sydney train station, police said.

The 35-year-old victim, who asked not to be identified, was seen on security video being approached by the two youths, who began verbally abusing him, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

A statement from the New South Wales police department said a station worker called police when he saw the attack escalate, the Canwest News Service reported.

"The two males continued to assault the man by stomping on his body, attempting to take his wheelchair and personal belongings and striking his head and body with metal bars," the statement said.

A 17-year-old was arrested, although the second younger youth remained at large, police said.

The victim is a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, who was paralyzed in a 2000 snowmobile accident. He was in Sydney visiting his girlfriend, the Herald said.
