China: Its UNSC presidency will be fair

BEIJING, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- China will be objective and fair during its presidency of the U.N. Security Council next month under the rotating system, its envoy said.

Permanent Representative Zhang Yesui told the China Daily the country considers the presidency important for multilateral diplomacy in 2010. He said the U.N. Security Council's 15 members, which include the five permanent members, are currently planning the agenda for next month.

"According to what I have got (until) now, it will be a busy schedule," he said, adding China would do its utmost to make sure the body works smoothly and efficiently.

The rotating council presidency, which lasts one calendar month, uses the English alphabetical order of the names of the member nations. China previously assumed the presidency in October 2008.
