KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A suspected Taliban commander believed to be responsible for several attacks was among militants detained in Afghanistan, military officials said.
Several other suspected militants were killed in operations Thursday and Friday in Warduk Province, the Armed Forces Press Service reported.
In the village of Badam Kalay, a combined Afghan and U.S. force surrounded a mosque believed to be used as a Taliban weapons dump, the Defense Department said. When those inside returned fire instead of responding to calls to surrender, the joint force fired on the mosque, killing two people.
After the rest surrendered, including the suspected commander, a search of the mosque turned up a machine gun, assault rifles, grenades, a pistol, ammunition, a video recorder and communications equipment.
Other arrests were made in Zabul and Khost provinces and the city of Kandahar.
