GROZNY, Russia, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Ten militants were killed in a police operation in the Shalazhi forest of the Russian republic of Chechnya, a Chechen Interior Ministry source says.

The unidentified source told ITAR-TASS among those killed in Friday's police operation was Islam Uspakhadzhiyev, an armed group leader with links to Doku Umarov, the self-proclaimed North Caucasus emir.

"A police operation supervised by State Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov was held in the Shalazhi forest to order of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov. Helicopters fired missiles at the militants, and the field operation of the interdepartmental guard regiment, the Akhmad Kadyrov regiment, the North battalion and the Achkhoi-Martan district police department began," the source said.

"Kadyrov lauded the efficient police operation, in which none of the policemen was hurt," the source added.
