ULYANOVSK, Russia, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Russia's president Saturday ordered a review of the nation's ordnance depots after an explosion in Ulyanovsk killed two and injured others, officials said.

Two soldiers died fighting the blaze Friday at a naval arms depot and at least 10 other people were hospitalized, RIA Novosti reported.

Shockwaves from the explosion smashed windows in several schools and damaged the homes of at least 105 people, including 17 children, Gov. Sergei Morozov told ITAR-TASS. The explosion occurred when old ammunition at the depot was being destroyed, authorities said.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, at a summit in Singapore, Saturday ordered all of the nation's weapons depots to undergo immediate safety reviews.

The arms depots must "comply with fire safety rules and other operational standards," Medvedev said from the summit of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.
