CALGARY, Alberta, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- A school bus smashed into a tree after colliding with a minivan in Calgary, Alberta, leaving 36 children on board with minor injuries, authorities said.

The drivers of the bus and minivan were not so lucky, however, and were hospitalized in stable condition with more serious injuries, 660 News Radio reported.

Residents of Calgary's Huntington Hills neighborhood said they heard the children from Balmoral Junior High and King George Elementary schools screaming following the 8:15 a.m. crash, the radio station said.

"We smashed into a car, the car flipped over and we landed into a tree," Owen Henderson, an 8-year-old passenger on the bus told 660 News, as he left the hospital with his mother.

The impact triggered screaming and crying among the students, he said.
