Two earthquakes hit Taiwan in two hours

BEIJING, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Two earthquakes less than two hours apart Thursday jolted Nantou County in central Taiwan, the China Earthquake Networks Center said.

There were no initial reports of major damage from the earthquakes, which measured 5.9 and 5.4 on the Richter scale, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

In Nantou's Mingjian Township, the quake cut off electricity and some houses cracked or were fractured.

A student in Taichung county sustained minor injuries to her head after some of the classroom's ceiling fell off during the first earthquake, Taiwan's fire brigade authorities said.
