FAIRFIELD, Australia, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A psychiatric hospital patient is facing murder charges for the fatal stabbings of two men in Fairfield, Australia, authorities said.

The Age reported in its Thursday edition Peko Lakovski, 49, was remanded after being charged with killing Raymond Splatt, 54, and Paul Notas, 36, at Thomas Embling Hospital in Fairfield.

Police allege Lakovski stabbed Splatt, his roommate at the hospital, with a large kitchen knife Wednesday night.

Lakovski allegedly then entered Notas's hospital room and attacked the man, repeatedly stabbing Notas as he attempted to flee. Notas was found alive by police, but died soon after of his injuries.

No motive was given for the killings.

The two killings prompted calls for a review of the forensic mental health hospital, The Age reported.

Interstate experts and Dr. Ruth Vine, chief psychiatrist for the state of Victoria, will investigate to determine why Lakovski and his two victims had been housed in the hospital's lowest security unit.
