NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Health officials in Kenya warned that disease could break out amid recent floods.
Two people have been killed in the flooding and several thousands were forced to flee their homes due to the flooding, which was caused by heavy rains that are expected to continue.
"So far, the biggest problems we are faced with are diarrhoeal diseases," Dr. Anisa Omar, the health director in the Coast Region told Britain's Sky News. "With all the water around we expect the mosquito population to increase and there might be an upsurge of malaria as well."
Sky News said the Magarini District was hardest hit and aid workers Thursday were still trying to get refugees to safety.
The flooding is the latest challenge for Kenya's government, which has been grappling with post-election unrest and the slumping economy.
