ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- British Prince Charles and his wife Camilla began touring Newfoundland Tuesday on the second day of an 11-day coast-to-coast tour of Canada.
The Prince of Wales, heir to the British throne, and the Duchess of Cornwall were welcomed Monday night in St. John's by Governor General Michaelle Jean, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and provincial Premier Danny Williams, the Canwest News Service reported.
About 2,000 people came to an arena for the ceremonial greeting where Charles noted he was on his 15th visit to Canada although it was the first trip for his wife, the Globe and Mail reported.
The couple was scheduled to stop in Quebec, Ontario and the site of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, before concluding their tour in Ottawa at the Nov. 11 observance of Remembrance Day.
Despite the second outbreak of the H1N1 flu virus, Prince Charles's office said the couple would be shaking hands as usual, but declined to say whether they had been vaccinated.
