Earthquake injures 28 in China

BEIJING, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A magnitude 5.0 earthquake rumbled through China's Yunnan province Monday, injuring 28 people and collapsing 1,000 homes, officials said.

The pre-dawn quake struck Binchuan and Xiangyun counties in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The earthquake affected more than 280,000 people, damaged more than 30,000 homes and killed more than 430 farm animals, Yunnan Provincial Civil Affairs Department said in a statement.
