Cops push 6 new charges for serial killer

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Six additional murder charges against convicted serial killer Robert Pickton are being pursued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia.

Pickton, 60, was arrested in 2002 and charged with 26 counts of second-degree murder after police found the remains of young women scattered around his pig farm in Port Coquitlam, B.C. His trial focused only on six victims and he was sentenced in December 2007 to 25 years in prison with no possibility of parole.

An appeal to the provincial Supreme Court was denied by a 2-1 decision and his lawyer said in June he would appeal to the federal Supreme Court.

RCMP Cpl. Annie Linteau told the Sun new evidence led to the force seeking the six homicide charges.

The charges relate to names on the list of 63 women who went missing in Vancouver's "drug-infested" east side between January 1997 and March 2001, the newspaper said.
