LONDON, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- A father accused of killing his daughter collapsed in an English courtroom during his wife's testimony, court records showed.
Mehmet Goren, 49, on trial for the 1999 slaying of his daughter, Tulay, 15, was helped by prison officers to lie on the courtroom floor at the Old Bailey Central Criminal Court in London, the Daily Mail reported Monday.
Tulay's boyfriend, Halil Unal, was a Sunni Muslim and unacceptable to the Gorens, Turkish Kurds who are Alevi Shiite Muslims.
Goren's wife, Hanim Goren, 45, said that the family had been angry about Tulay's relationship with a 30-year-old man, who was from another Turkish town.
The newspaper said Mehmet Goren along with two of Tulay's uncles allegedly decided she and her boyfriend had to die because they believed the pair had engaged in sexual relations.
