Sumatra earthquake injures dozens

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra early Tuesday injuring at least a dozen people.

The quake reportedly took place at 7:37 a.m. (GMT) and its epicenter was about 55 kilometers from the town of Bireuen, according to the US Geological Survey.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of National Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency, told Chinese news agency Xinhua, that at least 10 houses were damaged.

According to a local source, the second floor of a hospital collapsed. The number of victims has not yet been confirmed.
