The third tropical storm of the season formed in the eastern Pacific Ocean Sunday about 500 miles south of Manzanillo, Mexico.

The storm, Tropical Depression 3-E, strengthened into Tropical Storm Cosme and was expected to reach hurricane strength by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Cosme should move north and west, away form the Baja coast, but even if it did move east, colder water and drier air would sap it of any strength before it made landfall.
