Chicago shootings continue after violent weekend

The day following Chicago's most violent weekend so far this year saw another spate of shooting injuries across the city.

Another eight people were shot Monday afternoon and evening, although none was killed. This, after 41 people were injured and seven shot to death over the weekend.

One of those injured Monday, a 17-year-old boy, was left critically wounded. He was shot in the abdomen and taken to John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital of Cook County, said Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.

The others injured were:

- A 21-year-old man shot in Morgan Park at 1:15 p.m., in serious-to-critical condition;

- An 18-year-old man who rode up to a gas station attendant on his bicycle asking for police help in Englewood at 1:45 p.m., in good-to-fair condition;

- A 17-year-old boy who was shot in the leg in Pullman at 2:45 p.m., in stable condition;

- An 18-year-old woman shot in the buttocks while walking in Longwood Manor at 7:55 p.m., in stable condition;

- A 21-year-old man shot in the calf and a 22-year-old man shot in the thigh, ankle and hand in Grand Crossing at 9:45 p.m., in stable condition; and

- An 18-year-old man grazed with a bullet in Little Village at 9:55 p.m.

Police said that, despite the high toll over the weekend, gun violence has decreased since the same time last year.
