The action isn't technically considered a filibuster, since no actual legislation is up for debate.

WASHINGTON, March 10 (UPI) -- A group of more than two dozen Senate Democrats plan to take, after final votes Monday night, an all-night "talkathon" on climate change.

At least 28 Democrats, led by California's Barbara Boxer, Hawaii's Brian Schatz and Rhode Island's Sheldon Whitehouse plan to hold court on the issue in an effort to push Congress toward action.

The action isn't technically considered a filibuster, since no actual legislation is up for debate.

And notably, a number of Democrats vulnerable in the coming midterm elections will likely be absent, including Mary Landrieu, D-La., Mark Pryor, D-Ark., and Kay Hagan, D-N.C.

Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., and Mark Udall, D-Colo., are exceptions, and both have recently attended fundraisers sponsored by billionaire Thomas Steyer, whose NextGen Political Action group has refused to spend any of its pledged $100 million on Democrats who oppose climate regulation.

Democratic aides have provided the following list of senators planning to speak:

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I.
Senator Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.
Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.
Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore.
Senator Bill Nelson, D-Fla.
Senator Maria Cantwell, D-Wash.
Senator Benjamin L. Cardin, D-Md.
Senator Bernard Sanders, I-Vt.
Senator Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.
Senator Mark Udall, D-Colo.
Senator Tom Udall, D-N.M.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H.
Senator Jeff Merkley, D-Ore.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y.
Senator Al Franken, D-Minn.
Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.
Senator Chris Murphy, D-Conn.
Senator Martin Heinrich, D-N.M.
Senator Angus King, I-Maine
Senator Tim Kaine, D-Va.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
Senator Edward J. Markey, D-Mass.
Senator Cory Booker, D-N.J.
