OTTAWA, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- A Catholic bishop facing child pornography charges had sexually explicit images on his computer when detained at Ottawa's airport last month, a document shows.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Thursday the allegation against Bishop Raymond Lahey was contained in a seven-page sworn search warrant statement filed at the Ottawa courthouse.

The CBC said the document it obtained describes why Lahey was pulled aside by border agents for a secondary examination when he re-entered Canada Sept. 15 and details images they allegedly found on Lahey's laptop during the first inspection.

The graphic photographs allegedly were of males police believe are under age 18 and could be as young as 8, the CBC reported.

The search warrant document said Lahey hesitated when a border services asked him if he had a laptop computer. The agent then flagged him for a second inspection because he was a male traveling alone, had traveled extensively to source countries for child pornography, had evasive responses to questions pertaining to his possession of electronic media and changed his vocal tone and avoided eye contact when asked specific questions.

Lahey, who has been bishop of Antigonish since 2003, was charged with possessing and importing child pornography Sept. 25. He announced his retirement the next day and turned himself in to Ottawa police Oct. 1. He has been free on $9,000 bail pending his next court appearance Nov. 4.
