ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Todd Palin, husband of former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, has quit his job with BP in Alaska, the oil company says.

BP spokesman Steve Rinehart confirmed to the Alaska Dispatch Thursday night that Todd Palin submitted his resignation as a production operation on Alaska's North Slope, effective Sept. 18.

Word of his resignation comes on the heels of news that publishing company HarperCollins announced his wife's memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life," will be released Nov. 17 with an initial run of 1.5 million copies.

Sarah Palin resigned as Alaska's governor in July.
