Dozens indicted in NYC mob cases

NEW YORK, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Four dozen people with alleged ties to the Luchese crime family in New York were indicted Thursday on a range of federal felony charges, authorities said.

Nineteen of the defendants arrested in a raid were indicted on racketeering charges and other counts related to operating illegal gambling, sports bookmaking and loansharking, The New York Times reported.

Nine of them are also accused of trying to bribe undercover police officers posing as corrupt officers, the newspaper said.

The Manhattan district attorney's office also announced the indictment of 29 people, including members and associates of the Luchese family, and four corporations. Those charges include enterprise corruption, bribery, receiving bribes, extortion, narcotics and firearms trafficking and illegal gambling, the Times said.
