VAN NUYS, Calif., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- A 4-month-old baby boy was killed and a pregnant woman wounded in a gang-related shooting in Van Nuys, Calif., police said.

Andrew Garcia died at a hospital Sunday after being caught in gunfire outside the Van Nuys home of Anna Contreras, 28, who was wounded, police told the Los Angeles Times.

Contreras, who is pregnant, was expected to survive, police said.

Witnesses said two men approached Frank Garcia, 21, the baby's father, and a family friend, Eric Ramirez, and demanded to know where they were from. When Ramirez responded "Barrio Van Nuys," the two men opened fire, witnesses told police. Ramirez suffered minor injuries in the shooting.

Ramirez is a known gang member and Garcia has had minor associations with gangs, police told the newspaper. Relatives said neither man associates with gangs.

The two suspects last were seen fleeing on foot.
