Tapes show chaos in Oklahoma City bombing

OKLAHOMA CITY, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Security tapes kept by the FBI show people in Oklahoma City running through debris after the 1995 bombing of the federal building, officials said.

The FBI released the tapes to Utah lawyer Jesse Trentadue, who is performing his own inquiry into the April 19, 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building.

None of the soundless tapes, taken from cameras in surrounding buildings, show the actual explosion, The Oklahoman reported Sunday.

They do show people rushing from nearby buildings and fleeing buildings through corridors filled with dust and debris, The Oklahoman said.

Trentadue obtained the tapes under the Freedom of Information Act. Trentadue's brother died at the Oklahoma City Federal Transfer Center in August 1995. Trentadue has alleged guards mistook his brother for a bombing suspect and killed him during an interrogation. The transfer center listed the official cause of death as suicide.

Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were convicted in the bombing, which killed 168 people. McVeigh was executed in 2001. Nichols is serving life in prison.
