Woman, 43, fatally shoots alleged thief

DETROIT, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- A 43-year-old Detroit woman fatally shot a man who helped steal her purse at a local gas station, police say.

Detroit police spokesman John Roach said the unidentified woman was approached by two men early Friday morning and the suspects promptly stole her purse and fled the scene, The Detroit Free Press reported Saturday.

Roach said the woman, who had a license to carry a concealed gun, used her weapon to fire several shots at the fleeing suspects.

The police spokesman said a man who died early Friday from multiple gunshot wounds at Sinai-Grace Hospital is thought to be one of those unidentified suspects.

The gunshot victim was accompanied by another man at the hospital and police suspect that individual may be the other robbery assailant, Roach added.

The Free Press said no charges have been filed in connection with the theft of the woman's purse, which was recovered and returned to the robbery victim.
