SACRAMENTO, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman says in a new series of campaign ads that rebuilding California starts at the top.
The radio campaign launched Tuesday is seen as a new phase in Whitman's strategy to win the GOP nomination to replace outgoing Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Whitman, who has been on the campaign trail since February, cites her long corporate career at eBay and other major companies as her major qualification for leadership.
"We need to reinvent California, and that reinvention starts at the top," the ad says.
The Los Angeles Times reported the ads illustrate the clout Whitman's personal wealth is playing in the 2010 campaign, given her ability to write checks for significant media buys early on.
