Pittsburgh 'flash mob' urges G20 peace

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- About 300 college students staged a "flash mob" action in downtown Pittsburgh in which they wished for a peaceful Group of 20 summit, witnesses said.

The students, from Point Park University, gathered in downtown Pittsburgh shortly after lunchtime Monday, dancing for global peace to the sounds of Neil Diamond's "America," Kool & the Gang's "Celebration," Sister Sledge's "We are Family" and the Beatles' "All You Need is Love," the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

The flash mob reportedly produced smiles from passers-by as they removed their jackets to reveal matching T-shirts decorated with orange peace signs.

"I saw the camera and all the people gathered around," Sergio Flores, 32, of Beechview, Pa., told the newspaper. "This was definitely something innovative and different to what you're used to seeing here."

The flash mob was choreographed by Kiesha Lalama-White, a contemporary jazz and choreography instructor at Point Park who also is education director for the Pittsburgh City Light Opera, the Post-Gazette said.
