Man dies in fall from Minneapolis bridge

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- A man jumped or fell from the Franklin Avenue bridge into an open passing convertible on the exit lanes of a highway into downtown Minneapolis, police said.

The man was not identified, the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune reported Monday. He bounced out of the car and died in the roadway just after 6 p.m. Sunday.

The driver of the convertible, Robert Lehr, 46, of Minneapolis, and his passenger were not seriously hurt, but were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center as a precaution, KSTP-TV, Minneapolis/St. Paul, reported.

State Patrol spokesman Lt. Matt Langer said the man who was killed had injuries inflicted before he fell or jumped from the bridge, but Langer would not elaborate.
