Thai king hospitalized with fever, fatigue

BANGKOK, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- The king of Thailand has been hospitalized with fever and fatigue, the royal household announced Sunday evening.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej has been experiencing fever and fatigue and has lost appetite, the statement from the royal household said, the Thai News Agency reported, and his physicians were trying diagnose the cause of his condition while administering antibiotics and intravenous fluid.

The king was admitted to Siriraj Hospital Saturday night for a checkup, TNA said.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva visited Siriraj Hospital before leaving for the United Nations in New York, and signed a book wishing the king good health.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej at 81 is the world's longest reigning monarch, TNA said.

Crowds flocked to the hospital Sunday to sign the books wishing the king improved health. The public will be allowed to sign the books Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time, TNA said.
