SANDUSKY, Ohio, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A missing 11-year-old mentally disabled Michigan boy has been found at an Ohio amusement park and a former neighbor arrested, authorities said.
Isabella County, Mich., Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski said the boy, Brendan Michael Chobod, was reported missing from his home Friday and was found Saturday night at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio, in the company of 21-year-old former neighbor Andrew Smith of Midland, Mich., the Sandusky Register reported.
At least nine local law enforcement agencies had taken part in the search for Brendan, including more than 100 volunteers. Police worked with the Sandusky office of the FBI on the case, and Cedar Park spokesman Robin Innes told the newspaper that at some point in the search the FBI notified Michigan authorities that Smith and the boy may be at the amusement park.
Mioduszewski said that Smith had lived in the same trailer park as Brendan but had recently been evicted. He had been free on bond while awaiting sentencing on felony drug charges, he told the Register, adding that the 11-year-old looked up to Smith like a "big brother."
