AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A Netherlands court has set a date for the hate speech trial of far-right politician Geert Wilders, officials said.
Wilders, leader of Freedom Party, will appear in court Jan. 20 on charges of inciting discrimination and hatred with his statements about Islam and Muslims, Radio Netherlands reported Monday.
Wilder reportedly told the conservative De Telegraaf newspaper it is "regrettable" he will have to stand trial for what he called merely "political" statements, adding he is certain he will be acquitted.
The Dutch broadcaster said Wilders will be represented by well-known Amsterdam attorney Bram Moszkowicz.
