EU's Solana to talk to Iran about nukes

TEHRAN, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- The European Union's foreign policy leader said he will meet with Iranian officials Oct. 1 to discuss Iran's recent proposal on its nuclear program.

The EU's Javier Solana is to "get further details about Iran's proposal," which Western critics said lacked specifics, CNN reported.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sunday repeated his country's position, saying his nation is ready to negotiate on a number of issues other than its nuclear program, Iranian state-run media.

The United States and other Western nations have expressed concern Iran is hiding a nuclear weapons program while Iran insists its program is for civilian power and peaceful in scope.
