NEW HAVEN, Mich., Sept. 11 (UPI) -- A Michigan prison inmate confessed to binding and drowning a fellow prisoner, police said.
The victim, Anthony Wayne Lee, 32, was discovered Sunday. He had been tied up with bedding and drowned in his cell's toilet at the Macomb Correctional Facility in New Haven, Mich., the Detroit News reported Thursday.
"There's no indication as a result of this investigation that (the victim) was forcefully bound. It seems it wasn't long into the interview when (the suspect) began to confess to being involved in the murder," said Michigan State Police Richmond Post Detective Sgt. Patrick Young.
"Macomb is a fairly open movement facility. Prisoners have the opportunity to harm one another at any given time, but the vast majority would like to live there violence-free and staff helps to ensure that happens," John Cordell, Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman, said.
The death is reportedly the first slaying at prison since 1993, when it opened, the newspaper said.
