WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- A Virginia man with a shotgun in the trunk of his car attempted to enter the U.S. Capitol grounds as President Obama spoke on healthcare, police said.

Capitol Police stopped Joshua Bowman, 28, of Falls Church at a barricade several blocks from the building Wednesday night, The Hill reported.

During a search of his car, officers said they found the shotgun in a case and ammunition.

Bowman was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition.

The Capitol was under additional security Wednesday night and the Capitol Police were working with the Secret Service.
