LEEDS, England, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A British coroner's inquest failed to nail down the cause of death of a woman who was dieting to lose weight for her wedding.
The inquest failed to determine whether or not the low-calorie diet Samantha Clowe was on for 11 weeks contributed to her death of heart failure.
Clowe, 34, Leeds, collapsed and died while on the final week of the LighterLife diet, which includes pre-packaged servings of various foods totaling a paltry 530 calories per day.
"The evidence cannot point one way or the other as to whether her indulging in that diet has in any way caused or contributed to her death," said West Yorkshire Coroner David Hinchcliff.
The Daily Mail said Wednesday that while Clowe, a metallurgist at a steel plant, had dropped some weight on the diet, the examination found her to be generally fit.
A spokesman for LighterLife told the newspaper that their understanding was that Clowe had been obese prior to starting the diet, which could have caused her heart issues.
