Florida racehorse found slaughtered

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A thoroughbred horse found slain and butchered in Miami Gardens, Fla., is the latest of 17 horses to be killed in Miami-Dade County this year, officials say.

The 4-year-old race horse named Kinkisi, who had been raced at Calder Race Track, was found dead early Wednesday at the A Lazy Ranch as its owner, Yosmel Luis, 28, went to its stable to feed it, The Miami Herald reported.

Miami Gardens police indicated they were looking at similarities between the crime a May incident in which two horses with their throats cut and flesh stripped from their legs were found in a field in Miramar, Fla., the newspaper said. Animal rights advocates say they believe the horses are being slaughtered for the meat, which is sold on the black market.

"(The killer) has no idea how bad I want to find him,'' Luis told the Herald "It's so cruel. It's murder like if they killed a person. The only thing worse than killing my horse would be killing my daughter and my mother and father.''
