LISBON, Portugal, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A judge in Lisbon, Portugal, Wednesday banned the sale of a book about the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann.
Clarence Mitchell, a spokesman for McCann's parents Kate and Gerry, told Sky News a Civil Court judge in Lisbon banned the sale and future publication of "The Truth of The Lie" by Goncalo Amaral, who worked as an investigator on the highly publicized missing person case.
Amaral alleges in "Truth" there is evidence that suggests McCann, who went missing in May 2007 while her family was in Portugal's Algarve region, is dead.
McCann's disappearance at the resort of Praia da Luz came days before the British national's fourth birthday.
Mitchell told Sky News that McCann's parents were pleased with the judge's decision, which leaves Amaral facing a daily fine of $1,450 until all copies of his book are removed from European shops and warehouses.
"Kate and Gerry McCann are absolutely delighted that the judge in Portugal has done the right thing by granting this injunction," Mitchell said.
