SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A California lawyer who says President Obama was born in Kenya has filed in federal court a copy of what she claims is his birth certificate.
Orly Taitz has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana seeking Obama's removal from the presidency on grounds he is not a natural-born U.S. citizen, as required by the Constitution. She filed the alleged Kenyan birth certificate Friday, The Orange County Register reported.
Obama's father was a Kenyan citizen who was studying at the University of Hawaii when he met the president's mother. The couple married in Hawaii, and the future president's birth was announced in a Honolulu newspaper and he has produced a Hawaiian birth certificate.
In her filing, Taitz says the Kenyan birth certificate was obtained by Lucas Daniel Smith, who bribed a Kenyan military guard to allow him to get the certificate from Coast General Hospital in Mombasa.
